Elmo Rietschle S-VSA and S-VSB rotary screw vacuum pumps are primarily used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries for processing applications. The dry running, contact-free screw vacuum pumps are used where mechanical seals are needed to ensure contamination with oil or other operating liquids is impossible. Several screw vacuum pump sizes are available with ATEX certification. Achieve chemical resistance with the internal coatings of the chemical version of the Elmo Rietschle rotary screw vacuum pumps. Screw vacuum pump performance:

Operate at any pressure between end vacuum and atmospheric pressure with our S-VSA, S-VSB and S-VSI screw vacuum pumps. S-VSA, S-VSB and S-VSI screw vacuum pumps achieve an ultimate vacuum of 29.91 in. HgV and their capacities range from 59 to 1,500 cfm.

Rugged and Durable Design:

Elmo Rietschle S-Series screw vacuum pumps have two timing gear-synchronized parallel screw rotors in the pump housing that turn in opposite directions. Gearbox and mechanical seals in the screw vacuum pump are oil lubricated and gas is compressed in the direction of the discharge port. A continuous flow of coolant in the screw vacuum pump housing provides efficient cooling.

S-Series Vacuum Pumps

Operating Principle S-Series

In S-Series screw vacuum pumps compression is achieved by internal volume contraction.

A screw vacuum pump consists of two screws, one with a right-hand thread and the other with a left-hand thread. Both screws turn in the compression housing without friction with very tight clearances. They are synchronised via a precision gear.

The compression housing and the special shape of the screws form the compression chambers. Due to the opposite rotation of both screws the chamber connected with the suction port is enlarged and the gas is transported into the compression chamber. Then the chamber moves axially from the suction side to the pressure side (arrow). During this transportation the mass of the gas in the chamber increases.

On the pressure side the chamber is moved against the axial housing wall and the volume is reduced until the front surface of the screw opens the pressure channel and the pre-compressed gas is discharged through the pressure connection. Cooling is achieved using a water cooled outer chamber. For some pump sizes additional cooling gas can be introduced into the pump.
